I am 48 years old South Asian woman, hiking on challenging mountains keeps me fit and continues to challenge me to seek new heights. This particular hike is 12.5-mile loop trail near Clayton, California is at 3500 ft elevation. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 7 h 15 min to complete. I was able to complete this with my partner/husband in 6 h 30 min in 80F heat.

Hiking on challenging mountains is an excellent way to stay fit as we age, specifically for the following reasons.
