I Wish More Women Knew…

Menowell bars are an excellent source of digestible plant-based protein and 25% of daily fiber, amongst other things. They are my perfect on-the-go snack for those times when you are craving sugar because you didn’t eat enough protein or fiber at your previous meal! In addition to complete nutrition daily, lifting weights at home or at a gym at least thrice a week is essential.

Here are the benefits of lifting weights and eating more protein, especially for women in all stages of menopause:

Weight Lifting Benefits for Menopausal Women:

  1. Boosts Metabolism: As estrogen levels drop during menopause, metabolism slows down, leading to weight gain. Lifting weights helps boost metabolism by increasing muscle mass, which burns more calories, even at rest.
  2. Improves Bone Density: Women are at higher risk of osteoporosis post-menopause. Strength training promotes bone health by stimulating bone growth and reducing the risk of fractures.
  3. Enhances Mood: Weight lifting releases endorphins, improving mood, reducing anxiety, and combating menopausal mood swings.
  4. Supports Joint Health: Regular strength training strengthens the muscles around joints, which can alleviate the stiffness and discomfort common during menopause.
  5. Increases Strength & Confidence: Building strength helps maintain independence, increases energy levels, and boosts confidence in daily activities.

The Importance of Protein:

  1. Muscle Maintenance: Protein is crucial for preserving and building muscle mass, especially as we age. Eating more protein helps women prevent muscle loss that often occurs during menopause.
  2. Appetite Control: Protein keeps you fuller for longer, curbing cravings, especially for sugary snacks. This helps manage weight gain associated with menopause.
  3. Supports Bone Health: Protein works alongside calcium to maintain strong bones, further reducing the risk of osteoporosis.
  4. Hormone Regulation: Adequate protein intake supports the production of hormones, including those that fluctuate during menopause.
